GREAT NORTHERN SPORTSMAN SERIES RETURNS TO TSR

Greg Oliver of GO Racing Promotions introduced the Great Northern Sportsman Series (GNSS) at Tomah back in 2013 and since then this touring series has continued to grow and gain in popularity.

In 2016 the GNSS returned Tomah Sparta Raceway (TSR) for the first Cranberry Cup 40. Dave Trute was the winner of that first 40 lap feature. Trute is no stranger to winning at Tomah as he also has won the Tim Myer Memorial Sportsman Shootout.

The TSR challenges both driver and car with its asymmetrical oval setup. “Drivers must be able to use their brakes well...and they do use them.” says TSR Promoter Chuck Hausman. It is not uncommon for top class cars like the GNSS use up their brakes early.

Already this year Tomah has seen GNSS drivers Mike Gilomen and Mitch Lyden compete in its weekly events. Mitch Lyden has been a track favorite at Tomah and the fans love it when he returned for feature races like the Tim Myer Memorial and the GNSS Cranberry Cup 40. Lyden suffered severe engine problems at Dells Raceway Park on June 3 and Tomah fans are hoping for a great return for Lyden at the Cranberry Cup 40.

The 2017 Cranberry Cup 40 will be held Friday June 16th at TSR. Gates will open at 4pm and racing will begin at 7:30pm. Admission for this event will be: $10 Adult, $8 Veteran/Military/Emergency Services, $5 Student (6yrs – 17yrs) and kids 5 and under are always FREE.
